Subject: NARRATIVE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

The Barangay was used to be called Alagingay, which derived its name they called gingay which was abundantly growing in the community especially in the river banks. Gingay plants are of Talahib Family and the flower or tassel is used in the making of brooms. Alagingay creeks traverse the area and that sand and gravel found in its beds are the source of construction materials where construction dealers procure this materials in the community.

The whole Alagingay is owned by Patricio Alcantara, a rich farmer from Sara. He was instrumental in organizing people to later formed a Brgy. A philanthropic man who led the brgy. to what it is now. After his death the community to perpetuate his name honor to change the name Alagingay tp Alcantara.

The community is a boundary Brgy. of the Municipality of Lemery and the Province of Caapiz for in the other side of Alagingay creek is already Capiz. The resettlement project propose to cover the area. Brgy. Layogbato is on the East, the Province of Capiz in the North and west and in the South is Brgy. Marapal. The area is mountainous and the people practice kaingin to survive especially on public land. The Jison Family in Negros bought the land to the heirs of alcantara and devote the area in planting sugar and corn.

An overflow was once constructed but it was destroyed by flood. Brgy. roads with distance of 0.50 kms is being maintained with the assistance of Nat’l Maintenance Fund. The upland promised a good site for agro-forestry project.
